MSc IN GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
SYSTEMS - TECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATIONS
()
Objective:
The MSc in
Geographical Information Systems (GIS) - Technologies and
Applications aims to promote the formation of professionals
for leadershipment and orientation in GIS projects conception and
development, by giving them competences for supporting decision
making related with the management of spatial and georeferenced
data.
The integration
of several areas of specialization,
like Geographical Engineering, Computing, Geostatistics and
Project Planning and Management, will give to the students
know-how about GIS project generation and development in its
several components. Among several, this course aims to graduate
techniciens with skills to:
-
Develop and
master techniques and methodologies of geo-referenced spatial
data acquisition and representation;
-
Master the
tools and the processes used for modelation, storing, management
and access geo-referenced data;
-
Apply and
develop strategies and methodologies for exploration and
extraction of information and knowlege, adequated to the
analysis of geospatial phenomenon.
Admission conditions:
Licenciated people,
having degrees or curriculum equivalent to the ones
established for the
1st cycle, according to the Bolonha process, under the Artº 17 of Dec-Lei 74/2006, in the scientific areas of
Engineering, Earth Sciences, Agronomy Sciences, Environmental
Sciences, Geography and Regional Planning, Urbanization, Landscape
Painting Architecture, Marketing Management or related areas.
Study-Plan:
|
>
The course is
composed by a specialization module according to study-plan, to be
given on the 1st and 2nd semesters of the 1st year, and by a
dissertation/project to be carried out on the 3rd and 4th
semesters of the 2nd year.
> For the
attribution of the specialization diploma in Geographical
Information Systems - Technologies and Applications, the students
have to get approval in 7 main disciplines and 3 optional ones, to
which it corresponds a total of 60 credits (ECTS).
> For the
attainment of the MSc degree in of Geographical Information
Systems - Technologies and Applications, the students have to get
approval in the specialization course of Geographical Information
Systems - Technologies and Applications, have to get approval in 3
optional disciplines and to carry out a work of dissertation or
project with a final report. The total number of credits necessary
to the attainment of the MSc degree is of 120, between which, 42
correspond to the dissertation, 60 to the specialization course
and 18 to the 3 optional disciplines. |
