Geomatics (GIS/Web-GIS) Specialist
Salary Range EUR40- 48k .

The CMRC is a multidisciplinary scientific research group whose role is to
investigate the interactions between biological and physical coastal and ocean
resources and human populations, with a view to establishing the level of
sustainable utilisation, and thereafter, stimulating the adoption of
scientifically-based integrated coastal and ocean management plans.

We wish to recruit an experienced geomatics specialist to join a team who are
working to develop a strategic framework for the sustainable management of
marine aggregate resources in the Southern Irish Sea. The position is initially
financed for 18months under the INTERREG IIIa programme, ho! wever there will be
good opportunities to extend the role to contribute to a range of initiatives
supporting the development of CMRC Geomatics/IT capacity.

The successful candidate is likely to be either an environmental scientist with
GIS/database expertise or an IT specialist with an interest in practical
application of their skills in a coastal/marine geoscientific context. Your
primary role will be to support the design and development of a web-enabled
geo-environmental database and associated GIS based decision support tools. You
will have excellent IT, GIS, web, database and programming skills (minimum 4
years) and preferably several years experience managing large geoscientific
datasets in GIS environments. You will be a strongly motivated self-starter,
with superior team working communication skills and mentoring and coaching
ability.


Education: Minimum qualification BSc. in Geomatics, IT, Computer Engineering, or
Comp! uter Science.

Proficient experience in the following is required:
VB, Java, Linux/UNIX, Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS), Open source
software (e.g UMN-Mapserver, PostgreSQL), OpenGIS, ISO metadata standards,

Beneficial: Web development e.g. (servlets and JSP, ASP, PHP, Python), JDBC,
JavaScript, XML, GML, SOAP, X-Forms, Exist. Experience of marine data formats
(e.g. MBES, Geophysics), and operating within an HPC environment would be an
advantage. Experience of Apache HTTP server administration and Bash shell
scripting would also be advantageous.
